Whizzing Around the Streets

Having no alarm clock or really even a sense of time for the past 10 days has been really rejuvenating. I wake up solely because it's time for my body to rise and get a croissant or because the cars outside are scurrying by quickly making loud commotions. (There also may or may not be a full-sized human alarm that comes and wakes me up persistently too.) This morning was just that. I woke up in my comfortable jersey cotton, matching (so adult, huh?) pajama set and stayed in them until around 3 p.m.

Let me explain.

There was fresh fraise jam wanting to be spread onto the crispy croissant that was going to be obviously devoured by me while sitting on the couch in the sun lit living room. That was the first problem. We all gathered and got comfortable. Not wanting to push pause on Gilmore Girls or even use enough brain cells to pick out a European-y outfit, we settled with comfort on the decision to breeze through multiple episodes of Gilmore Girls. There were also side distractions that came from Kira the little pup, or even from random surges of crazy outbursts. Eventually it became lunch time and with our brains being zoned in on one thing & one thing only, we didn't let a delicious meal get in our way... instead.. we let it be apart of the television watching. 1950's TV tray style... but without the trays.

Today was going to be one of those days.

But low and behold, the remote was picked up and the 'stop' button was pushed and Luiz and I geared up for what was about to became a breezy tour of the city on bikes. Tightening our Chaco sandals, we both headed out to seek a place that would lend us their wheels for a couple euros. Stumbling upon the bike and roller skate rental, we picked out our bikes that each had an attached wire basket so we could put all our goodies in them. As soon as we took off we finally had the superior advantage that the bikers of Nice get to have, their own bike lane with stop lights and everything! Two wheel royalty!

Feeling the breeze in our hair (mainly my hair) and pushing hard to cycle up the hills yet reversing that with sticking our feet our while going down, I decided that this jolly bike ride was a good choice. Being able to gaze at all the colors that began to blind together from the hotels on one side of the two way street, and on the other side see the multiple massive sized umbrellas on the beach... I was once again thankful for the blessing of this place. Then I remembered a quote from earlier in GG which filled my thoughts; "what is color?" Whatever reason God made color for, I ain't complainin'!

Arriving back to the rental shop before our time ran up, we grabbed a large bottle of water and walked the streets once more. Each time discovering a new fascinating store with things that caught our eyes, or even returning to a safe haven with a reassurance that good will come from it... such as the pirate themed candy store! Sugar rush round 2, here I come! We took our time doing things in a leisure manner and went into stores that we so pleased, and the little beauties all began to sink in again.

Making it back to the apartment, we sat down and with no surprise I fell asleep on the couch while attempting to read. Being woken up only so that we could all go explore and decide on a place for dinner. And why not? Why not have some Japanese sushi in France on a Thursday night! Ordering two styles of rolls with other Asian goodness, we left feeling satisfied but not 100%... not until there was gelato in the palm of our hands.

We got there quickly to predestined spot that contained the perfect flavors for the evening. Luiz even got his dreamt about Nutella flavor! Great success. We thought it would be fun to go sit by the ocean while we consumed our treat, but 2 seconds before arriving to our destination, 2 out of the 3 of us were already done for, so we sat on the benches. We sat and we watched all the lively people walk and pass in front of us. It was Friday night after all... Then a storytelling game sprouted from this, and any random (lucky) stranger was picked to have a story about their lives be created by Luana, Luiz, or I and trust me, these characters played their parts well. One prime example being that there was a man who accidentally washed his red France jersey with all his exclusively white clothing from his store, and it created a pink shirt, and that was what had started the revolution of men in pink tee's..

Then it was time to go back to where we would end our day; the apartment. A few more routine Gilmore Girls episodes and a cold glass of water, and the day came to an end...

Bonsoir!
